Contributing to continued stability of Trinidad and Tobago’s financial system is DIC’s core business. We’re recognised as the institution that provides deposit insurance protection and promotes public confidence in the banking system. Our efficiency is fostered by a strong, resilient governance framework and a team of dynamic, competent staff who undertake the day-to-day functions of the organisation.
Apart from our core business, we also engage in community outreach activities that take the form of voluntary activity and contribute to the social and environmental well-being of communities and, by extension, our country.
The activities are usually done in collaboration with non-profit organisations and take into consideration the needs of the communities. We then include the talent and passion of the DIC team, who contribute their time, skills and effort to support these activities. This collaboration allows for a community outreach program which brings significant benefits to the communities, our employees and the DIC.
Activities
Since 2017, the DIC has carried out outreach activities twice annually and has collaborated with organisations including The Centre for Socially Displaced Persons, Trinidad & Tobago Cancer Society, Living Water Community, Our Lady of the Wayside, Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project, Love All Serve All and Habitat for Humanity.
Outreach activities include:
- Working with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity in completing the walkway around a two-bedroom house.
- Preparing meals for Love All Serve All for socially displaced persons.
- Engaging in reforestation with the Members of the Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project.
- Transforming the library area at Our Lady of the Wayside into a multi-purpose environment, including a homework centre, and cleaning up around the premises.
- Packaging hampers containing food items and toiletries for distribution to persons in need by the Living Water Community.
- Donating toys to the Trinidad & Tobago Cancer Society for distribution to children battling cancer.
In December 2020, with the pandemic and the resulting public health guidelines restricting the number of persons who gather for public activities, the DIC was innovative in its approach to community outreach activity and engaged in a mask making exercise for socially displaced persons.

Employee Involvement
The activities brought employees across all departments together in a different light and different environment and allowed them the opportunity to interact with each other outside of the regular workplace setting.
These interactions served to strengthen team building and boost internal relationships as employees got to see, experience and know one another better. This helped create stronger bonds and allowed for easier collaboration and communication.
Additionally, the various activities helped broaden employees’ perspectives and allowed them to engage in more informed discussions about the various non-profit organisations and the communities they serve.
Benefit to the DIC
This collaborative effort is in keeping with the DIC’s corporate aspiration of positively impacting the lives of citizens across the country. The activities allowed the DIC to build relationships with the non-profit organisations and brought some degree of visibility and awareness in the national community.
Conclusion
Overall, the DIC’s community outreach activities are highly interactive, team-based experiences which help to fulfil needs within communities and build stronger relationships amongst our team members. These activities represent the DIC’s way of giving back to the community.
